Need to get away and relax, we have the perfect spot on Portage Lake, located in Aroostook County Maine.
We will try to make your vacation stay whether it is winter, spring, summer or fall an enjoyable one. Our camp provides warm cozy lodging and has a full kitchen and bath facility. We provide the bedding and towels; all you need to bring is toiletries and groceries.
Portage Lake is a recreational paradise, with its many activities that happen year round. Sja Watersports that is nearby has water-ski, kayak and canoe rentals.
Summer vacations:
For recreation there is swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, sightseeing (and our favorite water-skiing, wakeboarding or all those other watersports that you can't seem to get enough of. July 4th is an eventful time on the lake. The Portage Lake Association holds boat parades with the best decorated boat or float wins a prize. The Wave Tamers which is a group of local water-skiers put on a free water-ski show for the town.
After a long day on the lake enjoy the evening sitting by the outdoor fireplace and a wonderfully lit decorative pond. You can be sure the sky will be full of stars and the loons will be doing their legendary cry of the lost hunter.
Hunting season in Portage Lake:
Hunting season is a time when the town is bustling with hunters and the excitement of the big game. When in season there is bear hunting, deer hunting, moose hunting and coyote hunting.
The second largest moose registered in Ashland on the first day of moose season was taken by hunters that rented our camp. Not the avid hunter! Then enjoy the breath taking views of Northern Maine as the leaves are changing color, signaling the coming of winter.
Winter months:
For all you snowmobiling enthusiasts, Aroostook County offers the best when it comes to snowmobile trails and Portage Lake is right in the heart of it all. We have over 1600 miles of trails to ride. The snowmobile trails leading into and out of Portage are well groomed and provide access to all major and scenic winter wonderlands in Northern Maine. So make your vacation dreams come true by staying in our camp with easy access to town, both by trail and vehicle. The camp is located on ITS 85 which is part of Northern Maine's Trail System and you also have direct access to the lake. Other winter sports that are available are ice-fishing, cross-country skiing, ice-skating, snowshoeing and horse drawn sleigh rides.
