  • Aroostook Valley Trail System - Aroostook County ~ Aroostook County
    75 mile long multiple use trail system on abandoned rail beds. Used for hiking, birdwatching, mountain biking, atving and snowmobiling.

  • Bald Mounain - Woodstock ~ Oxford County
    Nice hike in picturesque secluded area. Ascends by a small pond and winds around through open ledges to scenic lookout. Trail not well marked. Base to summit 1 1/2 mi; elev gain 700 ft.

  • Bald Mountain - Dedham ~ Hancock County
    Short hike, with excellent views in all direction at the peak. Base to summit 1/2 mile, elev. gain is 500 ft.

  • Bald Mountain - Rangely ~ Franklin County
    Easy climb through forests to some open ledges and some exceptional views of the Rangely Lakes. Many side trails including one to an abandoned fire tower. Base to summit, 1 mi; elev. gain 1000ft.

  • Bald Mountain - Washington TWP ~ Franklin County
    Steady climb through forests to open ledges with excellent views of the region. Base to summit, 1 1/4 mile; elev gain 1400 ft.

  • Bald Rock Mountain - Lincolnville ~ Waldo County
    Excellent views of Mt. Desert Island and Penobscot Bay. Well used path makes for an easy and steady ascent to open ledge. Base to summit, 1/2 mi; elev gain 500 ft.

  • Baldplate Mountain - Andover West Surplus ~ Oxford County
    Beautiful views from treeless summit. Several spectacular falls and deep pool. Steep climb over rock ledges and up ladders (careful footing required). Base to summit, 3 3/4 mi; elev gain 2900ft.

  • Barren Mountain - Elliotsville ~ Piscataquis County
    Spectacular strenuous climb with several points of interest. Appalachian Trail skirts Slurgundy Gorge and Falls. Excellent views. Base to summit, 4 mi; elev gain 2170 ft.

  • Bear Mountain - Hartford ~ Oxford County
    Short hike over old logging road to rocky clearing. Base to summit, 2 mi; elev gain 800ft.

  • Beech Mountain - Southwest Harbor ~ Hancock County
    Starts with short gradual ascent, then curves east for steep climb to flat summit with fire tower and spectacular views. Loop trail is 1 1/4 mi; elev gain 400 ft.

  • Big Spencer Moutain - T12R13 WELS ~ Piscataquis County
    Steep climb to top offers excellent view of Mount Katahdin, Moosehead Region and Allagash Wilderness Lakes. Well maintained trail ascends over roots and boulders to peak and an unstaffed fire tower. Base to summit 2mi; elev gain 1900ft.

  • Big Squaw Mountain - Big Squaw TWP ~ Somerset County
    Overlooks Moosehead Lake from the west. Trail is easy to follow and starts with gradual ascent, then climbs steeply along brook. A shorter approach is from the skiing area. Base to summit is approximately 3 miles; 200ft elevation gain.

  • Bigelow Range - Wyman, Dead River ~ Somerset and Franklin County
    This vast range extends 17 mi. Four peaks accessed by network of trails. Various climbs to 6 1/4 miles in length with a possible elv gain of 3100ft.

  • Black Mountain - Sumner, Peru ~ Oxford County
    Mountain features many summits with unique rocks and good views. Base to summit, 1 3/4 mi; elev gain 1200ft.

  • Blue Hill - Blue Hill ~ Hancock County
    Excellent views of Mt. Desert Island and Blue Hill Bay from ledges and abandoned fire tower at the top of this mountain. Base to summit, 1 mi; elev gain 500 ft.

  • Boarstone Mountain - Elliotsville ~ Piscataquis County
    Awe-inspiring mountain rises steeply besides lake. Trail climbs steadily along a private road to chain of small ponds, then becomes much narrower through the woods to bare ledges and nice views. Road to E-Peak, 2 miles; Elevation 1100 feet.

  • Bradbury Moutain - Pownal ~ Cumberland County
    Short climb up wooded ledges to lookout. Has additional trail for hiking and X-country skiing. TO both summits and back, 3/4 mile; elev gain 200ft.

  • Cadillac Mountain - Bar Harbor ~ Hancock County
    Highest peak on the East coast, offers impressive views from all directions. Gradual easy ascent. (Follow stones for side trip to Eagle Crag Outlook.) 3½ miles, Elevation 1200ft.

  • Crocker Mountains - Carrabasett Valley ~ Franklin County
    Long easy walk along ridges to peaks. Well marked, part of the AT trail system. Some steep and rocky sections. Base to summit, 6 mi; elev gain 2700ft.

  • DeBoullie Mountain - T15 R9 ~ Aroostook County
    Spectacular view of the North Maine Woods and surrounding lakes at the remote summit. Steep ascent, base to summit, 1 mi; elev gain 800ft.

  • Dorr Moutain - Bar Harbor ~ Hancock County
    Shortest, most direct ascent climbs up stone steps through woods to open ledges that offer magnificent views of Frenchman Bay and Cadillac Moutain.

  • Douglas Mountain - Sebago ~ Cumberland County
    Short climb through the woods to open ledge viewpoints with fine vistas of the Presidentials, Pleasant Mountain and Oxford Hills. Base to summit, 1/4 mi; elev gain 300ft.

  • East Royce Mountain - Batchelders Grant ~ Oxford County
    Excellent views from the top of the Presidentials from this northernmost peak of the Baldface Range. Several trails availabe. 1 3/4 - 1 1/2 mi; elev gain 1700ft.

  • Elephant Mountain - Bowdoin College Grant ~ Piscataquis County
    Easy hike through forest in picturesque remote setting. Remains of a crashed B52 bomber are one of the points of interest along the trail. Base to summit, 1 mi; elev gain 600ft.

  • Flying Mountain - Southwest Harbor ~ Hancock County
    Short, quick climb through woods to outlook. Great view of Somes Sound and Cadillac Mountain. Base to overlook, 1/2 mi; elev gain 200ft.

  • Gorham Mountain - Bar Harbor ~ Hancock County
    Many points of interest on this hike. Side excursion to Cadillac Cliffs offers arches, caves and overhangs. Awesome views from the summit of Sand Beach, Otter Cliffs, Great Head and more. Road to summit, 1 mi; elev gain 500ft.

  • Gulf Hagas - Bowdoin College Grant ~ Piscataquis County
    The Grand Canyon of Maine. Trail follows the Appalachian Trail System. Beautiful 3 mile canyon contains 5 waterfalls. Strenuous Gulf Hagas Loop trail follows the rim and returns to the AT.

  • Jockey Cap - Fryeburg ~ Oxford County
    Short hike to ledge and excellent panoramic views. Base to summit, 1/4 mi; elev gain 200ft.

  • Lead Mountain - Beddington ~ Washington County
    Nice hike through woods on old tote road. Views from the south face ledges, but no views from the summit. Base to summit, 1 1/2 mi; elev gain 1100ft.

  • Little Jackson Mountain - TWP 6 North of Weld ~ Franklin County
    Climb offers views of area. Not well marked. Trail is steep in some areas, but mostly an easy hike. Base to summit, 3 1/4 mi; elev gain 1800ft.

  • Low Aziscohos Mountain - Lincoln Plt. ~ Oxford County
    Enjoyable climb to spectacular views of Rangley Lakes region. Gradual climb through woods to summit and toppled fire tower. Steep climb over slippery ledges near end. Base to summit, 1 3/4 mi; elev gain 1700ft.

  • Monument Hill - Leeds ~ Androscoggin County
    Short hike to partly wooded summit and nice views of Androscoggin Lake and the White Mountains. Civil War Monument at the summit. Base to summit, 3/4 mi; elev gain 200ft.

  • Mount Battie - Camden ~ Knox County
    Picturesque views of Camden Village, coast, harbor from exposed summit and stone lookout tower. Base to summit, 1mi; elev gain 600ft.

  • Mount Blue - Weld ~ Franklin County
    Steep climb through woods to wooded summit and abandoned fire tower offers exceptional views of the western mountains. Base to summit, 1 3/4mi; elev gain 1800ft.

  • Mount Champlain - Isle Au Haut ~ Knox County
    Slow ascent to outlook on the highest peak. Base to summit, 1mi; elev gain 400ft.

  • Mount Cutler - Hiram ~ Cumberland County
    Many points of interest on this hike including an old gold mine, picnic area and wooded glade. Rough rocky climb to open ledges and views of village and the Saco Valley. Impressive views of the White Mountains. Base to summit 3/4mi

  • Mount Katahdin - Mt Katahdin TWP ~ Piscataquis County
    Largest mountain in Maine and highest peak (Baxter Peak). Many trails to summit with spectacular views of valleys and lakes below. Steep climb over rocks and boulders and Chimney Pond offers an overnight stop at the base of mountain. Elev gain 4200ft.

  • Mount Kineo - Kineo TWP ~ Piscataquis County
    Mountain located on an island in the middle of Moosehead Lake. Spectacular view from the bald top summit. Several trails available to choose from. Docks to summit, 1 to 2 mi (depending on trail); elev gain 800ft.

  • Mount Megunticook - Camden ~ Knox County
    Several trails ascend this hill. There are no views from the summit, but there are several lookout points along the trail, including Ocean lookout which offers panoramic views of the Maine coast. Base to summit, 1mi; elev gain 1100ft.

  • Mount Pisgah - Winthrop ~ Kennebec County
    Nice easy hike to the top of this mountain offers scenic views from the top of an abandoned fire tower. Base to summit, 1mi; elev gain 400ft.

  • North Maine Woods - Northern Maine ~ Aroostook & Piscataquis County
    Millions of acres of woodlands in northern Maine. Many NMW campsites available. Excellent hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and hiking opportunities. Various fees do apply. Visit their website for more information.

  • Quaggy Joe Mountain - Presque Isle ~ Aroostook County
    Twin peaked mountain overlooks lake and northern Maine; the best view is from the north peak. Pleasant climb. Base to north peak ¾ mile, to south peak 1½ miles, elevation 600 feet.
